Best Automatic Litter Box
This is a review on the Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Robot Bubble – the best automatic litter box. The Litter Robot is the best automatic litter box with an advanced system which provides ease of use, low maintenance and a clean environment for your cats.
Why did I try the Litter Robot, the best automatic litter box?
I’ve been the proud owner of multiple cats over the past 13 years. I’ve always struggled with litter box issues and have been determined to find the perfect litter box. Originally I started with traditional litter boxes and over the years I kept experimented with more advanced litter boxes since none of the ones I used were working out. They would smell, were hard to clean, tracked litter and I always felt like I was cleaning and living in litter. Most recently, prior to being an owner of the Litter Robot cat litter box, I used the ScoopFree cat litter box which, at the time, was the best automatic litter box I had ever used since it eliminated the need for scooping and greatly reduced the smell. However, the monthly subscription plan for replacing trays started wearing on my bank account (It’s about $86 every 4-5 weeks for 2 cats), so I decided to look into cat litter boxes that had been introduced to the market and found the Litter Robot Bubble cat litter box. At first I scoffed at the price since it seemed expensive for a cat litter box but once I factored in the money I’d be saving from no longer using expensive trays with the ScoopFree litter box, it became clear that I had to invest in purchasing the best automatic litter box. The big picture showed that I would have a litter box that required minimal effort, a clean environment for my cats, and a reduced use of cat litter. Ultimately this would equal savings in litter costs over the year. After 4 months of using the Litter Robot cat litter box I recouped the cost I would have spent on replacement trays for the ScoopFree cat litter box and I’ve never once looked back.
How does the Litter Robot Bubble work?
The litter box is a rather large litter box that is composed of three major parts. There is the motorized base, the top dome, and the waste tray. I was surprised by the size of the box when I received my Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Robot Bubble cat litter box, but the benefits far outweigh the extra space it takes. Before I discuss the mechanics of this best automatic litter box, I’ll share some photos from the day I received my unit. I opted for “tan” because I felt it would hide any dust or dirt more easily, and so far this has proved true.
As you can see, you will receive a base, a dome top and a waste drawer. Assembly is simple – you merely plug in the base to an outlet, place the dome top over this base and fill with litter, no hardware necessary, and place a bag inside of the waste drawer. You will need to do a cycle for the unit to calibrate itself.
The unit functions by detecting a cat’s presence inside of the unit and setting a 7 minute timer once the cat leaves the unit. This 7 minute time slot allows the waste to harden with the clumping litter. In order to dispose of the waste, the dome will rotate a full circle, which will sift the waste from the good litter, and allow the waste to dump into the drawer. There is no smell associated with this process, and if the proper cat litter is used, there will be no dust that is kicked up due to the slow rotation. It is imperative to use a great clumping litter with this cat litter box, or else the waste may not harden and cause the unit to not function properly.
What cat litter is best for the Litter Robot cat box?
I personally use Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter, 40 pound bag from Amazon.com. With 2 cats using the Litter Robot litter box, 1 bag of litter lasts me approximately 2 months. I have had zero issues with this litter smelling, sticking or creating dust, and consider it to be the best automatic litter box.
How often do I need to change the waste drawer in the Litter Robot cat litter box?
My absolute favorite thing about the Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Robot Bubble cat litter box is that I am FINALLY able to place my litter box routine on a schedule. I have two larger cats. The largest is a Bengal as seen in the photo above and they can produce a lot of waste. However, I feed them Orijen Cat Food which is a grain-free food, so they may produce less waste than cats on a grain food diet. With both cats, I only change the waste drawer every Sunday. Once a week is the only time that I must even look at the litter box. To empty it, you only need to open the waste drawer, pick up the bag inside, seal it, and throw it in the dumpster. Then you replace the bag using a standard small kitchen waste bag and close the drawer. That is it! I also use this time to fill the Litter Robot with more litter. There’s a button labeled “FILL” which allows the unit to partially rotate, exposing an opening on the side where you can fill the litter. It’s as simple as just pouring more in this hole. It takes me about 2-3 minutes total once a week to maintain the cat’s litter box. The picture to the left was taken on a Sunday after one full week of two cats using this best automatic litter box.
Will the Litter Robot work for all cats?
The Litter Robot cat litter box will work for the vast majority of cats. The Litter Robot can only detect cats over 5 lbs and should be used for cats less than 20 lbs. However, if your cat is smaller than 5 lbs. you can still use the Litter Robot, with some alterations. To use with smaller cats that don’t trip the sensor, you can leave the unit unplugged, and then simply force a cycle by plugging it back in when you know it is not in use. This still allows you to avoid scooping and enjoying the advantage of the Litter Robot until your cat gains weight to reach the 5 lb. weight limit.
Another issue is that cats who are diabetic may produce too much urine to allow for proper clumping of the litter, which may cause problems with the sifting process not working correctly.
How do I know if my cat will use the Litter Robot?
This is a very common question that comes up about the Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Robot Bubble. Admittedly, my cats did not touch the Litter Robot for over a week, and I started worrying that I had made a mistake with the purchase and had plans to return it. I had left their old litter box right next to it, and they continued to use that. In a last ditch effort, I removed the old litter box completely and left the Litter Robot as the sole option for them. They used it, and have had no problems using it since. In fact, with the ScoopFree my male cat would randomly urinate in the house or in front of the ScoopFree. If he detected any urine in the box he would just simply not use it. Since integrating the Litter Robot into our household he has not urinated in the house once because this best automatic litter box stays so clean.
If you decide to try out the Litter Robot please be patient with your cats and give them time to adjust. They may not immediately use it, but that’s only because it’s foreign. Experiment with the old litter box placement or removal and eventually your cats will realize the Litter Robot is an acceptable place to go the bathroom.
